Through this post I am not intending to give any new piece of information on nutrition. In fact we all know the importance of nutrition in our life. We all pretend to be well aware of this fact! What we don't do is practice what we know. The reason is simple: apathy towards the self!
Why apathy towards the self. Well, when we are young or in good health we are confident that nothing will happen to us, we believe our body is very strong and in our mind we feel our health is sound.
The outcome is that our body is misused and exploited over time, its systems start malfunctioning and mild signs and symptoms of diseases start appearing as impending danger signs.
The outcome is that our body is misused and exploited over time, its systems start malfunctioning and mild signs and symptoms of diseases start appearing as impending danger signs.
If we still ignore these danger signs the disease get established and disease (s) is manifested into a chronic element which may not be curable.
The first signs of disease (s) is improper nutrition or malnutrition which does not mean deficiency in nutritious elements, it equally means over eating and oversupply of proteins, fats and carbohydrates (starch and sugar) and salt.
When several of the required
substances are not present in food in adequate quantity it can also lead to retarded or abnormal development, illness and even severe disease. So what we should be eating is an ideal food according to our needs.
As sometime an advertisement of a bread, biscuit or anything else may claim, is there an ideal food, In fact, an ideal food is the one that supplies the
body with the required amount of various nutrients in adequate quantity. For infants, there
is an ideal food in the form of breast milk, but there is no ideal food for others.
The composition of an ideal food lies in the demand at different stages of life and in the states of good health or diseases. Ideal nutrition is one which is a combination of different food stuffs rich in
carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins and fiber.
An ideal nutrition is linked to actual needs of an individual depending upon age, lifestyle, and health status. An ideal diet means it is taken along with appropriate physical activity, less salt, less or no sugar, low trans fats and good fats rich in omega fatty acids, fiber, antioxidants.
Fruits in general, colored fruits in particular and all vegetables are rich in antioxidants, fiber and and nutrients for good health and longevity. Nutritious diet is sure way to guard against NCDs.
